Paragraph three represents a journey which both reflects his journey to the and life in general.
"From where he was, high up among red-brown rocks,"
This represents the womb he is far away from the dangerous rocks he is away from danger.
"rough sharp rock" "dark blue"
This represents life, everythings so painful and sharp and so much more intense like the colour of the sea.

Jerry's mother is possesive of him, but decides to let him wander of on his own
"she went worrying off to her beach"
This shows how worried she is and how she doesnt know if shes made the right decision.

Paragraph four on page twentyone shows Jerry's young age.
"He ran straight into the water"
This shows great immaturity by Jerry rushing straight into the water without thought, this shows he is young and care free. This reflects him at the start of the short novel being immature and acting like his young age, but as he and the novel develops he grows as a person.

Jerry tries to gain approval from the boys and make friends with them.
"but he was happy. He was with them."
This shows he is content to follow the boys.

Paragraph five on page twenty one shows again Jerry's young age.
"between it and the big beach"
By using such simple words like "big" it shows the immaturity of Jerry seeing the two beahces in sych a direct comparison.
