The mother still treats Jerry like a baby after he comes home.

In the last few lines of the story

“well I shouldn’t over do it”

This quote shows that even though that Jerry feels he is matured his mother is still worrying over him like a child. This could be also taken symbolically as he has metaphorically been reborn so she is acting like a new mother with her new baby fussing over it.
