P- the maturing of Jerry throughout the short srory
C- page 25
Q- "most unchildlike persistance, a controlled impatience, made him wait."
E- shows how jerry has matured over the holiday, and how his patience has growen when he wants somthing so bad and when it means somithing to him.

P- the time limit placed by his mother. she presents heself as a very laid back, realxed woman.
C- page 25, paragraph 7.
Q- " his mother said casualy one morning, they must go home."
E- jerry panics at the time limmit placed by his mother, and ends up pushing himself mentaly and phyisicly to the edge. he even considers death in trying to compleat his mission.
his mother's casuality also stresses Jerry as she does not know exactly what he is up to, so he has to keep it a secret from her.

P- Jerry worrying about his death in the tunnel.
C- page 25, paragraph 7
Q- "supposing he turnned dizzy in the tunnel? supposing he died there, trapped? supposing - ..."
E- this stage Jerry is paniking, yet determined to make it trough the tunnel. with the use of repition of "supposing", the wrighter creats a feeling of anxiety.

P- Jerry now knows he is under pressure and has to push himself to the limit to the extent he is causing himself physical damage.
C- Page 25 last paragraph
Q- " His noes bled so badly that he turned dizzy"
E- This shows how determined Jerry is to get throught the tunnel that he is willing to put himself in danger and despite the pain it doesn't distract him from his main mission- to swim thorough the tunnel
